Web Site Gift

If you are reading this you may well wonder how an insurance brokerage firm came to our aid in this way. Let us tell you the tale of Jim Mones and Mones & Associates, Lindsay Mones, Raya Rowbotham, Leighton Computer Consultants, Neil Leighton, Lydia Leighton and their wonderful families.

Jim Mones has long been a supporter of many Kids Kottage special events, notably the annual golf tournament. Lindsay Mones, daughter of Jim and Sandra, has more recently become a child-care volunteer at the Kottage. Lindsay taunted Dad about the fact that her contribution was 'hands-on', that she spent real time at the Kottage, worked with the client children, knew first-hand of the day-to-day joys and woes. So...Jim decided to visit, tour the Kottage and the administration office, and...he was SOLD!! In fact Jim was so sold that he also sold his friends, Neil and Lydia Leighton on the idea of giving us this very special 5th birthday gift. If we tell you that Lydia designed the web site, and will provide site maintenance, that Raya assisted, that Jim and Neil provided the networking and cabling for our new computers, that Jim allows us to use his new server, it sounds too simple. What they did was spent countless hours at the Kottage and the office. Jim worked with Neil installing, providing materials, and running cable in the crawl space beneath the Kottage. The latter chore turned out to be a bit more than they had bargained for. These are not small men, and the 4 ft., poorly lit space beneath the Kottage with dirt floor proved quite a challenge. In spite of everything, they emerged from that space with smiles every time.

The piece-de-resistance came when they emerged at one point and announced that we needed a plumber NOW, that the main sewer was about to blow, and they would soon be knee-deep in black water. The plumber arrived in less than 10 minutes, and our hereos saved the day for us and for the landlord. Another morning we arrived to find that Jim and Neil had worked all night. We often arrive now to find another 'miracle' installed. Jim and Neil also donated several items they noticed were needed, e.g. a large flashlight, new toys, and kitchen items.

The Mones, Leighton and Rowbotham families are also donors of note, as they allow their loved ones to give precious family time to the Kottage.

By the way Lindsay, Dad is now a 'hands-on' volunteer.
