On Tuesday, October
27, 2009, nearly 400 people converged on the Sawmil Banquet and
Catering Centre for a delicious early morning breakfast sponsored
by Bell Canada. Danny Hooper got everyone laughing right from the
start! Young Alyssa Stoddard impressed everyone with a very precious
grace prior to the food service. Then two beautiful young ladies
Mielke Sobolewski and Tianna Borle blessed everyone with their gift
of song. The specialties of the morning were greetings from Kids
Kottage Honourary Chair, Marie Stelmach and Premier Stelmach! Following
an insightful video depicting the work of the Kids Kottage crisis
nursery, auctioneer extraordinaire, Danny Hooper went to work and
raised $9,000 in the live auction. The closed bid auction brought
an additional $8,500 and by the end of the event, we had received
cash donations enough to take our proceeds over the top of $37,000!
Thanks to the many auction donors, buyers and sponsors who made
this year's Premier's Breakfast the best ever! Congratulations to
committee chair, Karen Clipperton and her committee for a job well
done!

On Saturday,
September 5th, The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra musicians, Allene
Hackleman, Bill Dimmer, Megan Evans, and Lidia Khaner donned BBQ
aprons and fried up patties donated by Sobey's thanks to Stephanie
Samson! Attendees at the concert in Hawrelak Park enjoyed the great
priced hamburgers and drinks, and raised almost $1300 for Kids Kottage!
Thank you Erika Ratzlaff, Marketing Manager, and everyone who helped
make this another wonderful success!
Our 10th Annual Earth
Angel Gala was a spectacular event where guests were ushered down
the red carpet, swarmed by paparazzi, just as it should be in true
Hollywood style, complete with Marilyn Munro wondered through the
crowd, greeting everyone out on the beautiful balcony of the Empire
Ballroom. During this wonderful "Night At the Oscars" our very own
Special Guests, Premier Ed Stelmach and Honourary Chair of Kids
Kottage, Mrs. Marie Stelmach were on hand to pay special tribute
to one of Kids Kottage biggest stars, Dr. Robert Westbury. Some
ten years ago Dr. Westbury was the brainchild of the Earth Angel
Campaign and Gala Ball and so it was only fitting that on our 10th
Anniversary of this amazing fundraising event that he be presented
with his very own "Oscar!"
During the exciting
evening over 220 guests helped raise more than $140,000 for the
Kids Kottage thanks to donors like: CJ Woods, Ashif and Zainul Mawji,
The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald and Mayor Stephen Mandel, TELUS and
Drs. Bob and Marilyn Westbury, Zulu Nyala Group of Johannesburg,
South Africa and The Ben Sawatzky Foundation and Don Wheaton, as
well as Kline Fine Jewellers, and Blue Sky Limos.
Thank you so much to
these people who were the winning bidders of these fabulous auction
items: Colin Lywood & Trish Hebert; Doug Goss of Bryan & Company;
Tom Flanagan of Amalgamated Mining; Marilyn Mucha of Deloitte; Todd
Bish of Solutions Workplace Furnishings; Ben Sawatzky! Congratulations
to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sawatzky who will be going on a 14 day Mediterranean
Cruise this fall!

The wonderful
folks at Brownlee LLP Barristers and Solicitors compiled some of
the artwork done at the Kottage and developed a 2009 Desk Calendar
for their clients. We are so thankful for their wonderful foresight
and support in getting the word out about our work with vulnerable
children and their families.
We did
it! We raised $103,000.00 and counting! And we confirmed 26 Guardian
Angels with more renewals coming in January and a whole year of
possible growth!
Even though
we started the day with a bit of a telephone glitch over our 944-HOPE
number, it still turned out to be truly a wonderful event once again
this year!! This was our 16th Annual Kids Kottage Radiothon with
AM 930 The Light and 105.9 Shine FM!
Because
of our wonderful supporters and listeners of Touch Canada Broadcasting
stations, we will be able to continue to come along side families
who are struggling in crisis - in desperate situations - alone,
with nowhere to turn for help - to the point that children are at
risk of abuse, neglect!
This success
could only happen because of caring people who enabled us to make
this fundraising event such a success, everyone at Touch Canada
Broadcasting and the Shine FM DJ's, Johnny Rocket, Malcolm Hunt,
Ryan Visser, Dean Jones, John Berry along with AM 930 The Light
DJ's, Jon Ramer and Wade Sorochan, who knew that their radio listeners
would respond to our plea for support and raise the necessary dollars
for the Kids Kottage crisis nursery! AND THEY DID! We can never
say "Thank You" enough!
Not only
was it special because of the 16th anniversary of this event, but
the event day held many wonderful moments we will all remember for
a long - long time ... like the "Time To Laugh with Leland
Klassen, who helped us to look at the lighter side of parenting,
all the special sponsors who donated Match Money so we could play,
"That's A Match" and of course all the wonderful volunteers
who gave us their gift of time as they volunteered on the Pledge
Lines, and of course the awesome faithful supporters who called
and donated their hard earned dollars - - - all for the precious
little ones and their parents!
We want
to say special "Thank You" so much to our Match Money
