The Opportunity
Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting for a casual cook to oversee the kitchen of the Kottage and ensure nutritious meals are provided to each infant and child staying with Kids Kottage. The successful candidate will perform meaningful and empowering work by becoming a part of the Kids Kottage team where empathy, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety are at the heart of everything we do. As a cook within the crisis prevention and intervention shelter, you will directly impact children’s care by providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meal service. You will be integrated as part of a dynamic team that includes community support, child care, and a leadership team. You will have a unique opportunity to become a part of multidisciplinary care and support for our community’s most vulnerable, infants, and children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adheres to Alberta Health Services health and safety regulations
- Prepares, serves, and cleans up after all meals and snacks for children
- Ensures that children receive their meals and snacks with considerations to any food allergies, diet restrictions, or cultural needs
- Reordering stock and food supplies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, dining room, and food storage areas
- Assists with other position-related tasks as directed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a cook in a group facility or commercial food, healthcare setting or restaurant
- Food sanitation and hygiene certificate or equivalent
- WMHIS training
- Workplace health and safety training
- Current First Aid-Level C certification
- Provides and maintains current clear CYIM and Police Criminal Record Checks
- Basic knowledge/experience with computer applications
- Able to read and follow standardized recipes
- Physically capable to lift food, supplies, and equipment up to 46 pounds and must be able to push/pull meal carts

Work Environment
- Casuals shifts will include, early mornings, days, weekends, holidays, on-call
