Corporate Giving: Mammoet Canada Western
The phrase “Earth Angel” might be foreign to most, but to us, it’s a phrase that spreads hope. It widens the gates of opportunity, builds relationships with those who believe in the importance and the power of giving back, acts as a gateway that enables Kids Kottage to keep children safe and families strong. It’s the phrase we so gratefully use to describe our corporate donors.
One of the core values of Mammoet, the global market leader in engineered heavy lifting and transport, is to “We Care”. This phrase focuses on their employees, the environment, and the communities they operate in. The latter, however, is especially true when it comes to Mammoet’s partnership with Kids Kottage.
They became one of our corporate donors in the late 2000s, and they have actively portrayed their belief in being a responsible corporate citizen by contributing to our cause in various ways. From hosting events, to sponsoring our fundraisers, to volunteering their time and so much more, they have actively played a part in advancing our overall mission.
“As a parent you relate when you walk around Kids Kottage and you hear people tell their stories and why it’s important to have an organization like Kids Kottage around,” Gijs (Gus) Verdeijen, Vice President of Mammoet Canada Western said. “Kids Kottage is unique in its approach; they provide a safety net for children when the families are in trouble. And, on top of that, their program is to really set the parents up for success. They really put a lot of effort in building strong families.”
While our efforts are centred around keeping children safe and families strong, we know that task is a team effort. Having corporations in our community recognize that the goal of building a sustainable, and strong community is achieved by investing in our future generations is truly a testament to the community we get to live and work in.
“Kids will inherit the world at some point in time, and if we can give them the tools and show them that they live in a community that cares about their success, they will carry that message forward. It is extremely important to support the growth and success of the community for long term sustainability,” Verdeijen said. “That’s why it is so important to make sure we support that message and actively contribute to make that happen.”
Not only does corporate giving create a small influx in personnel, but it also creates a staff who are like-minded. “By supporting Kids Kottage we attract a certain kind of people in our organization,” Gijs explained. “We continue to build that social license within our own small community of Mammoet and build on that as we continue to support an organization like Kids Kottage.”
As Edmontonians, we are very fortunate to live in a place where giving back is common.
Having the support of corporations like Mammoet, enables us to provide for our community’s most vulnerable children. Their donations enable us to continually develop programs that will better serve families within our community who are struggling with intergenerational trauma, or poverty, or mental or physical illnesses. Mammoet truly makes it possible for us to help some of Edmonton’s most vulnerable. It’s corporations giving back, like Mammoet, who create a thriving Edmonton community altogether.
