Gotham Gala: a light in the darkness
Gotham City is known for many things. It is a city in need of saving. But citizens of Gotham know that no matter how badly they need help, someone will always be there protecting them from whatever is hiding in the shadows.
Here at Kids Kottage, we know a thing or two about darkness. For 20 years, we have been a beacon of light and hope, guiding families out of crisis and into calm. So when it came time to choose a theme for this year’s gala, Gotham seemed particularly fitting.
There is no one more in need of a superhero than a child who is frightened and whose family is in turmoil, or who has lost their home.
So we invited the city of Edmonton to Gotham for the night, to be a superhero for a child, to help us keep that darkness at bay for a while longer. We couldn’t promise Batman, but we were determined to fill the room with Bruce Waynes, and we did.
Supporting Sponsor Elegant Touches transformed the Chateau Lacombe ballroom into a dark, glittering city scape with tables draped in black and silver. Bev Esslinger brought greetings from the City of Edmonton and e n legant guests dined on a delicious dinner of Cobblepot Bisque, beef tenderloin and molten Gotham chocolate. The live auction offered exclusive opportunities for travel to Mexico, New York and Montreal, as well as adventures right here at home, with luxury box seats to Oilers games, in-home gourmet dining experiences, and nights out on the town. Throughout the night, renowned painter Louis Lavoie was busy, paint brush in hand, capturing the event in a gorgeous impressionistic painting depicting children dressed as superheroes, standing with Batman. The painting was auctioned off while the paint was still drying, and purchased by WAM Development Group, who donated it back to the Kottage! And afterwards, Bella Rouge, dressed in their Gotham finest, kicked off their set with the Batman theme song and kept everybody out on the dancefloor until the end of the night.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, our guests, and those who purchased items from our auction, our Gotham Gala raised $115,000 in funds for Kids Kottage!
