Kids Kottage Spring 2021 Newsletter
25th Anniversary
We celebrated a quarter of a century of serving Edmonton and the area!
Since June of 1995, Kids Kottage has sheltered over 27,000 infants and children and helped over 14,000 families. Our organization might look a little bit different today than it did 25 years ago - the Kottage itself has grown, our programs have expanded, community partnerships have been forged - but our heart and mission to keep infants and children safe and families strong, remains unchanged.
To kick off our 25th year of keeping our community’s most vulnerable safe, we worked together with Mammoet, Telus World of Science Edmonton, and some of our generous volunteers, to deliver 25 baskets to 25 families we have served over the years.

KottageVision
We created a video series! There are so many organizations and individuals who dedicate their lives to building a brighter future for those in need. KottageVision was created to highlight those organizations and individuals, and have candid conversations with our very own executive director, Janine Fraser, on how we can all make a positive impact in our community. Each episode will leave you feeling empowered and equipped to make a difference. We have been honoured to have some very special guests, including Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Salma Lakhani.

National Child Day
National Child Day takes place each year on November 20th, and it is a very important day to us at Kids Kottage. It isn’t just a day we commemorate one day of the year. It is what our organization bases all of our values on; it truly is why we exist. This year, we celebrated by commemorating our commitment to all children being treated with dignity and respect, ensuring they have a voice, they are protected from harm, provided with their basic needs, and that they are given the opportunity to thrive as citizens. And, we weren’t the only ones celebrating. A number of city leaders and officials sent in videos explaining what National Child Day means to them.
Hear what they have to say:
Last, but certainly not least, we hosted our 26th annual Radiothon in December. This year when we set our Radiothon fundraising goal at $100,000. A high expectation, we know. However, with all of the Foundation’s other fundraising events cancelled because of COVID-19, this was our only hope.. Our community rallied together and more than DOUBLED our initial goal. To say we were blown away by the support we received throughout this fundraiser would be an understatement. Together, our community helped us raise $255,000 for infants, children and families in need. For that, we are so grateful.
Together, we really are building stronger and more resilient futures for the most vulnerable among us.
We wanted to share one story in particular with you from our sweet friend, Jessica. Jessica is the reason we do what we do, and it’s stories like hers that perfectly exemplify the heart and the purpose behind Kids Kottage - keeping infants and children safe.

As you can see, a lot has been happening at Kids Kottage! If you are interested in supporting our mission in keeping infants and children safe, there are a variety of ways you can do that such as:
- Follow us on social media at @kidskottageyeg
- Share our posts on social media (this seems small, but at the end of the day, it brings exposure to our organization which ultimately brings exposure to the needs of our community)
- Host your own fundraiser
- Donate
We are so thankful for the continued support from our community, and we are excited to see what the next quarter has in store.
