There is a man named Earl
There is a man in Edmonton named Earl, who not only has a huge heart for children but also, until recently, sported facial hair of epic proportions. This man determined it was time to shave his beard; lots of his friends ribbed him that it was time. So this big hearted gentleman told his friends they could make a donation to Kids Kottage… and if donations reached $5,000, Eddie’s Men’s Wear would match the donation. Imagine how much help Kids Kottage could give children with that amount of money! And then Earl would shave his beard.
And so this warm hearted man began collecting donations. He smiled to see how many generous donors there were who wanted to see his beard gone. He smiled even bigger when in a very short amount of time, too short a time, really; he had raised the $5,000.
And so this man wondered…could he raise $7500 so donors could see his beard shaved and the Kottage could be awarded an even larger donation, especially if Eddie’s Men’s Wear matched the full $7500.
The Kids Kottage website was oh so busy because the donations just kept on coming. Just EVERYONE WAS SO EXCITED to imagine a donation to Kids Kottage for $1500!
Unbeknownst to staff at Kids Kottage, Eddie’s Men’s Wear was collecting money in the store as well and finally this man named Earl announced he had raised $11,000 and that Eddie’s Men’s Wear would match that.
The hearts at Kids Kottage were full to overflowing. Earl’s donation of $22,000 made our eyes dance!
Then, the day of the shave, Earl announces that he has been given a $10,000 cheque if he would cut his hair as well as his beard. This man named Earl was ready for the challenge. He would also cut his hair. Now his donation had risen to $32,000! And that wasn’t the end of it either. On the day of the shave another generous donor gave Earl another $1,000. Oh my!
One man had just raised $33,000 for kids and families who are experiencing crisis and have nowhere to turn except to Kids Kottage.
Earl’s fundraising event is inspiring, isn’t it? Pablo so aptly said, “Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help”. Earl not only helped children and families, and encouraged staff at Kids Kottage but also helped others to “step up and help”.
